Nothing Can Save Intel

Quite honestly, nothing can save Intel (INTC). They’ve had one processor, the x86, and they have been trying to spin that one-trick-pony for decades. Every time they try to break new ground it’s a catastrophe. Most of you are probably too young to remember the Itantic (officially called the Itanium). That chip family was finally taken out to the woods and got two behind the ear which is what it should have had prior to … Nothing Can Save IntelRead more

Intel Graphics Screen Jitter

I first noticed Intel graphics screen jitter under OpenSuSE. Previously I had an NVIDIA graphics card in this ThinkCentre but it died. Only been using the on-board Intel chipset for a little while now. Screen jitter was really annoying, especially when using a browser. Thankfully I had many other machines in the office and put off using this one for a project until now. You will find oceans of supposed fixes for this when you … Intel Graphics Screen JitterRead more

The Fall of Intel®

When I read the story about the massive shellacking Intel® stock was taking I cannot say I was surprised. AMD® has been mopping the floor with them for years. It’s a case of management shooting itself in the foot, knee, and twice in the gut. Wall Street analysts have been trying to put a spin on it to claim they know what is causing it, they don’t. Intel ignore their market responsibilities. You Have to … The Fall of Intel®Read more

LTS == 15 Years Not 5

Once again the battle between tiny x86 minds and reality has happened. They continually claim an LTS is only 5 years when it needs to be a minimum of 15. It’s a result of AGILE hacking on the fly instead of planning and actual Software Engineering. Btw, our featured image was graciously provided by lemontreesites. I’ve written before about short term thinking at Qt. This “good for this quarter” mentality sadly isn’t unique to that … LTS == 15 Years Not 5Read more

Manjaro 5.15 LTS and BOINC

Manjaro and BOINC have had a troubled relationship over the years. Perhaps you read my previous post on this matter. The machine I’m using today is an HP EliteDesk G2. You will notice I’m using the built in Intel graphics so we won’t have any NVIDIA issues to deal with. Later I may stick in a NVIDIA NVS 310 Quadro and experiment with the Hybrid driver. It’s an interesting concept, but a diversion for this … Manjaro 5.15 LTS and BOINCRead more
